Receiver STR-DN1000

Sony STR-DN1000

I have owned the same Sony A/V receiver (can't recall the model) since 1999 and have always been very pleased with Sony's performance and reliability.

After a week of fooling with set up on all components I have gotten the blu-ray to work with the receiver but 2+ hours with SONY level 1 and 2 support have left me with.

And it sounds flippin' great! The receiver has enough power to fill our living room with sound loud enough to wake the neighbors, but we don't ever need to have it that loud.

The good thing is that the included mic and auto-setup is pretty slick and neat (and was easy to use), but as with all the receivers I've ever had, some of the terminology is difficult to understand. Many settings I probably won't ever use. And there exists the potential for endless weekends of complicated audio tweaks. When I was younger, stuff like that would turn me on.

The LED display is very cheap looking and poorly laid out, behind that smoked plastic front panel. The chassis is also fairly small and light weight, which doesn't evoke a sense of quality and substance compared to more serious (and pricey) components.
